About the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

Pursuing A Cure

The mission of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

LLS exists to find cures and ensure access to treatments for blood cancer patients. We are the voice for all blood cancer patients and we work to ensure access to treatments for all blood cancer patients.

Man & Woman Of the Year 2016

Why I'm Campaigning

More than 1.1 million Americans are currently living with or in remission from a blood cancer. Every three minutes, someone is diagnosed. Every ten minutes, someone dies from these cancers. They are men, women and children of every race and every age. Participation in LLS’s Man & Woman of the Year helps save lives not someday, but today.

Each year, in communities across the country, passionate candidates engage in an exciting competition to earn The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) “Man & Woman of the Year” titles by raising funds for LLS blood cancer research. The candidates campaign in honor of children who are local blood cancer survivors, the Boy & Girl of the Year.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society has invested more than $1 billion in research to advance breakthrough therapies that are saving lives today. Almost half of the new anti-cancer drugs approved in the U.S. from 2000 through 2013 (31 of 81) were FDA approved for blood cancer patients, and LLS helped advance most of them.
